Taking place this year on Monday, November 11th, Veteran’s Day is a sneaky way for both military and non-military families to score great savings at some major retailers and national restaurants. Just before the madness of black friday and the holiday shopping sprees, veteran’s day sales are a great way to get ahead of your holiday shopping at a fraction of the cost. not to mention you’ll be dodging the crowds, parking lot traffic, and the inevitable stress of procrastination.
with veteran’s day falling on a monday this year, you’ll also be guaranteed to find many retailers offering extended sales all weekend long. and with thanksgiving falling on the last week in november, we as shoppers essentially lose a week of getting ready for the holidays. so really there’s no better way to get ahead than right now!
thank a vet, and thank your yourself, by cashing in on the following ways to save this veteran’s day.
veteran’s day retail discounts for everyone
year after year, the following retailers have hosted veteran’s day sales across their physical and online stores in an effort to drive revenues before the big holiday rush. keep in mind, some retailers won’t even market these sale’s as a “veteran’s day sale” because they don’t want to risk limiting the general public’s participation. with that said, you can expect to see many retailers masking the sales as “early black friday,” “flash deals,” or “this weekend only!” the point is, whatever it’s called, the deals will be plentiful and available to keep up with the competition.
retail shops that offer discounts for everyone, not just military personnel, in 2024 include:
- amazon: i mean, obviously. buyers can expect up to 20% off some high ticket items, but its honestly not the first place i would look if you’re searching for something specific. you can always rely on amazon to have everyday discounts, but to really save on veteran’s day, going directly to the source of your desired niche product is best.
- WALMART: STARTING ON NOVEMBER 11TH, WALMART’S VETERAN’S DAY SALES “WILL FEATURE THOUSANDS OF MUST-HAVE GIFTS AND FINDS ACROSS TOYS, ENTERTAINMENT, HOME, FASHION, AND MUCH MORE,” THE COMPANY RELEASED. WALMART+ MEMBERS CAN ACCESS THE EVENT AS EARLY AS NOON (EST), WHILE THE GENERAL PUBLIC CAN LOGIN BEGINNING AT 5PM (EST).
- macy’s: from housewares, footware, fragrances, and of course apparel, macy’s continues to be a reliable retailer to accomplish all your shopping in one spot. rumored to be hosting its famous “one day sale” just ahead of veteran’s day, you can be sure to know that the discounts are coming.
- old navy: with the success of its 2023 online veteran’s day promo, old navy is expected to return with it’s take an additional 30% off campaign for veteran’s day 2024. this is a stackable deal which means you’ll get an extra 30% off, even on already reduced items. discounts on discounts baby!
- american eagle & aerie: at the time of this article’s publishing, no 2024 sale details have been released just yet, but with the company’s long standing history of hosting savings events during this time, you can expect a significant discount code to be made available. as well as even a “one day sale” opportunity of some of the company’s most sought after favorites.
- Wayfair: the online at home giant, is poised to return with its early black friday events during the veteran’s day weekend. but if you were instead looking to visit a showroom, Crate & barrel and ashley furniture are the best places to start for furniture savings.
- your local car dealerships: those 2024 and older models need to be cleared from the lots to make way for the latest and greatest in automobiles. there is so much bargaining power for a car buyer during this time of year, that you’d be silly to miss out if you were in the market.
veteran’s day retail exclusives just for veterans
next, its only right that we give credit where credit is due, and acknowledge that our veteran’s deserve some exclusive perks on a day dedicated to their service. as a military spouse, who was even married on veteran’s day in 2011 (11/11/11), exclusive veteran’s and military discounts have saved our family thousands of dollars. literally thousands! of dollars! so if you’ve got your military id handy, get ready to login for some amazing sales ahead.
- target: everyone’s favorite in store shopping experience, has already started its 2024 veteran’s day campaign! from october 27th- november 11th, veteran’s and their families can shop target online or in-store, for an additional 10% off their purchase. the discount can even be used twice on different transactions. military verification is required, and shoppers can quickly get their status confirmed via their target circle account on the app or target website.
- ugg: the popular australian comfort brand offer’s military members 10% off their purchase, including sale items, during veteran’s day. military verification can be submitted via sheerID.
- office depot & office max: i promise you this is a diamond in the rough! and while stocking up on your kids school supplies at a fraction of the cost is amazing, i want us to think bigger people! head to office depot or office max to receive 25% off during their veteran’s day weekend sale. not just a paper and pen hub, office depot/max also sells a plethora of electronics from printers to drones. those are some big gifts, at a little price.
- tarte cosmetics: a big name in makeup influencing world, tarte cosmetics offers all military and veteran’s a 40% off discount all year round! but what’s even better, is that the company allows you to coupon stack. so if they’re hosting any additional promotions, or you have an additional coupon code, you can stack those coupons one on top of another for top tier savings.
- kohl’s: any well versed kohl’s shopper knows that you never pay full price for anything at kohl’s. ever! the department store is always hosting sales and sharing coupons with the public, that you’d be silly to actually pay full sticker price. this veteran’s day, military members can score an additional 30% off their entire purchase. and like i already said, the store is sure to have already knocked down the prices ahead of this exclusive deal.
- under armour: after the massive success of their 2023 veteran’s day campaign, under amour is slated to bring back its double discount for veteran’s during most of the month of november. last year the athletic brand doubled it’s traditional 20% off military discount, and provided service members with a 40% off discount.
veteran’s day free food for veterans
“free” really is my favorite word. i mean is there anything better than getting something for nothing? anyway, veteran’s can treat themselves to a full meal or snack at a plethora of national chain restaurants and eateries on monday, november 11th. with a full list of past and returning restaurant participants detailed at military.com, the following are my personal favorite options:
- california pizza kitchen: this veteran’s day, service members can receive a free meal from a limited menu, as well as a coupon for a future purchase.
- freddy’s frozen custard & steakburgers: at participating locations, veteran’s will receive a complimentary meal card good for one free combo meal of their choosing. and the best part is, the card can be redeemed anytime from 11/11- 12/31.
- in-n-out burger: visit america’s favorite burger joint and receive a free burger, fry, and drink on monday, november 11th.
- starbucks: veteran’s can grab a free 12oz hot or iced coffee to start their day off right at starbucks.
- texas roadhouse: from 11am- 2pm on veteran’s day, vets can either dine in from a limited complimentary menu, or they can receive a free meal voucher for future use. the voucher is good for either carry-out or dine-in, and doesn’t expire until may 2025.
final thoughts . . .
believe it or not, it is officially “that time of the year!” which means that once mariah carey is done thawing, the holiday propaganda will be in full force!
so don’t wait until black friday to get some great deals. the crowds and chaos will still be at bay during the first half of the month, so take advantage of the deals and the silence. be sure to thank the vets in your life, and happy shopping.
